Enjoying Midwinter with Pippin Prints
Happy Wednesday and welcome to this month’s catch up blog post. A moment for me to reflect on the most recent chapter in our year, the art I’ve been creating in my studio and the progress I’ve made on current projects. I’ll also likely share some of the little joys of life from nature, home and the comforts of the current season. In January I have been enjoying midwinter with Pippin Prints.
Enjoying Midwinter with Pippin Prints
The traditional January post is one of new goals, resolutions and ambitions for the year ahead. This isn’t that. Thanks to a number of influences including a beautiful book called Evergreen (linked here in case you want to read it too) I’ve been educated on and drawn into what this time of year is truly for and I am embracing it fully.
Before the “new year new me” fads took over, long long before, January was a time for rest. For hiding from the cold, retaining all nutrients to get us through the shorter days and hiding in a safe space when the sun went down. Sound familiar? That urge to hide under a blanket at home and eat comfort food. It is completely natural.
Thanks to this new perspective, this is one of the first years as an adult where I’ve found genuine joy in the new year. I’ve eaten well, taken myself and my family outside on beautiful crisp days and otherwise mostly just rested. As much resting as I’m able to do with a three year old that is.
In the Studio
I’ve taken the same approach in the studio.
My to do lists have been short and painting has been top priority. The background admin type work is still getting done, but with my focus remaining on enjoying the calm I’ve been surprisingly productive.
Your support on my first painting of the year “Snowdrops” was wonderful. As I began to share the process on Instagram so many of you were watching and commenting and the same evening that I finished the piece and added it to my website it sold. What an incredible feeling. One I am truly grateful for!
A follower then requested that I paint some Lily of the Valley and of course I was more than happy to. The same thing happened. The support filled my heart. It really did mean so much.
A Little Life Update
I’m delighted to be able to tell you that after many months of planning (and worry if we would ever pull everything together) we have found a house in Scotland. The offer was accepted just this weekend. Packing up our Liverpool house is well and truly underway, plans for the new house are being drafted and I’m already exhausted from it all. That bodes well for the move itself.
A few tears have already been shed by me. We love this house dearly and I wish we could move it north with us. All of this change is for the best though. I can’t wait to share some of the new space with you, especially the garden!
Looking forward to speaking to you again at the end of February when we’re looking forward to lighter evenings and preparing for the first signs of Spring.
